Original Abstract

Lignite in its native state can find use, instead of simple burning, in a variety of non-energy applications like environmental and agricultural technologies. Direct application, though being very cost-effective, is not "user-friendly" and, further, very small particles (dust) can suffer from stability problems. Therefore, possibility of preparing extrudate-like particles from lignite using suitable binder is investigated in our laboratory. This contribution presents results aimed at selection of binder (particularly biodegradable), optimization of composition to obtain particles with controlled stability in water and/or mechanical properties. It is shown that milled lignite can be effectively formed into extrudable particles by simple and low-cost procedures.
