Original Abstract

Modern powertrains are required to have high reliability and power, low consumption, emissions and vibration level. A starting point of a new powertrain development process should be a cranktrain. The vibratory and acoustic behavior of the cranktrain is a highly complex one that greatly effects global engine noise emissions. At the present time it is necessary to use CAE methods to reach all requirements on modern powertrains. The paper deals with the cranktrain virtual development of a new series of diesel engines and mainly with vibration and fatigue analyses of cranktrain major parts.
