Original Abstract

Humic acids found in soils, sediments, water and other natural systems play important role in transport and transformation of both nutrients and pollutants. Due to their mixture character it is very difficult to give single and universal characteristics for their structure or properties. Several approaches to the humic mixture fractionation have appeared, e.g. chromatographic, ultrafiltration, electrophoretic. Our approach is a little bit different - the mixture is subjected to sequential leaching in solutions of increasing pH. Contribution presents results on influence of leaching solution composition on the fractionation process and discusses characteristics of isolated fractions. Lignitic humic acids were selected because of their abundance and easy availability in sufficient amount. Developed procedure is believed to assist understanding of functioning of humic acids in various natural environments.
