Original Abstract

A method of evaluation of a transient electric field due to the surge wave in a lossy medium is described in the paper. Basic equations for the potential involve the volume as well as the surface conductivity and permitivity. A new universal both 3D and 2D macroelement is proposed introducing the field equations into the ANSYS program environment. The element enables inserting both conductive and displacemnt volume and surface currents into the stiffness matrix. The material characteristics can be either linear or nonlinear. Pre- and postprocessor as well as solvers are suplied by the ANSYS program. The correctness of the method is verified on an example of an RC-CR transmission line, which is modeled by a chain of 3D elements.
