Original Abstract

The strengthening of masonry vaults was realized by specially shaped helifix rebars. The results from the experiments on masonry vaults loaded symmetrically in 1/2 of span, asymmetrically in 1/4 of span and symmetrically in both quarters of span are presented. From experiments is evident considerable higher load-carrying capacity of strengthened vaults loaded by individual force in comparison to unreinforced ones. The experimental results show that in the case the vaults were loaded in both quarters of span and stress mainly by normal forces, the influence of strengthening was negligible. Based on the experimental results a design algorithm was set up that follows the limit equilibrium method that gives a true picture of strengthen vaults behaviour.
