Original Abstract

Thin film colorimetric interferometry has been used to study the behaviour of an artificially produced roughness feature within lubricated contact. This technique provided accurate information about lubricant film thickness behaviour over a wide range of operating conditions. Lubricant film thickness distribution within the contact has been found to change significantly as a function of a slide-roll ratio. In order to study the behaviour of the roughness features within lubricated contacts in more detail, an approach to the calculation of pressure distribution within point contact from experimentally evaluated film thickness is being developed and the first results are presented here.
