Original Abstract

Molecular current switch considered in this work consists of a molecular wire with suitable bistable photochromic side group(s). In its 'on' state the molecular wire is able to transport electrons and/or holes with no affect by the photochromic side groups. Under the absorption of particular energy the photochromic unit change its conformation and its dipole moment. The local values of the polarisation energy are modified and local states (dipolar traps) are thus produced on neighbouring host molecules. The traps cancel the transport of electric charge - the switch is in its 'off state'.
