Original Abstract

Thermal dynamics is one of the characteristics crucial for design and control of radiant heating and cooling systems. A calculation of an alternative indicator of thermal response of radiant systems called heat storage efficiency (HSE) using computer simulations is presented. The HSE was compared with established indicators represented by the time constant τ63 and response time τ95. The comparison was performed for three wall cooling systems with various combinations of pipe location and configuration of material layers, and a thermal core made of thermally conductive reinforced concrete. HSE clearly showed the differences between the individual systems and cases while preventing scatter of the values. It enables evaluation of the thermal performance of radiant systems and development of control strategy for radiant and other systems.
