Original Abstract

One of the most efficient sources for the use of geothermal energy are thermally activated piles - energy piles. Generally, the thermal processes in the energypile can be modeled using numerical or analytical methods. In numerical modeling, there is a problem to determine the boundary of the computational domain for the pilot, which is infinitely surrounded by earth. This paper deals with the optimization of the computational domain size of thermally activated piles using the analytical model - Finite line source model. Using our own computational program, the distribution of the temperature field around the pile is obtained and on this basis the width and height of the computational domain is optimized. The aim is to determine these dimensions so that we achieve sufficient accuracy of the solution and at the same time low computational cost in numerical calculation. Parameters were determined by simulations on which size of the computational domain is dependant - diameter and length of energypile, overall computational time and value of percentage of activation temperature.
