Original Abstract

A time-domain equalizer (TEQ) is inserted in discrete multitone (DMT) receivers to impose channel shortening. Many algorithms have been developed to initialize this TEQ, but none of them really optimizes the bit rate. DMT equalization is typically done by means of a channel-shortening time domain equalizer (TEQ) and a one-tap frequency-domain equalizer per used tone. In this work the existing approaches to computing the coefficient of TEQ equalizer were analyzed. It is the FIR digital filter that minimizes the influence of the inter-symbol interference in the receiver. Based on the analysis we designed new algorithms SIRCH-CC (Shortening Impulse Response of Channel with Cyclic Convolution matrices) and MIN-ISI-CC (Minimum InterSymbol Interference with Cyclic Convolution matrices). The SIRCH-CC algorithm was designed in the tree options of the solution: unit tap constraint (UTC), unit norm constraint (UNC) and unit energy constraint (UEC). These algorithms were compared with the existing algorithms by simulation for ADSL and VDSL application. It has been proved that they offer stable results and that they are not sensitive to unterminated bridging taps on transmission cables, when the existing methods fail completely.
