Original Abstract

The primary aim of the presented study is to find out how the irregularity entrance to the contact area affects friction. Based on this it is possible to define the friction difference between a smooth surface and a surface with artificially produced irregularity. The current study pre-sents the first dynamic friction measurement in EHL contact with artificial roughness. This is the first step to understand the friction at the transition from full film lu-brication to mixed lubrication.
