Original Abstract

The paper deals with design of an embedded data tester for Free-Space Optical (FSO) links. FSO links have been traditionally designed as protocol-free (clear) transmission channels [1]. A 155Mb/s tester for Bit-Error Rate monitoring based on Xilinx Spartan-3 device that is embedded into FSO transceiver is presented. An interesting feature is that the tester works without analog clock recovery circuitry. All data processing is done digitally. Equipped with an Ethernet module it provides web-based management features.
