Original Abstract

Several artificially prepared materials from the group of mesoporous silica nanomaterials (MSNs) were tested on their water adsorptive capabilities as a potentially new eco-friendly energy storage materials for high density thermal energy storage systems. The selected specimens are distinguished by their pore size from 1.7-3.8 nm and aluminium doping. All the tested materials have shown high affinity towards water and high-water uptakes. The theoretical energy density of the materials spans from 780 kJ/kg up to 1440 kJ/kg mostly depending on the pore volume and partially on the pore size. The materials show high potential for further investigations in the field of adsorption heat storage especially the TMPS-4A for further enhancement as a composite material and TMPS-1.5A for possible direct use.
