Original Abstract

The contribution presents simulations of concrete experiments using discrete meso-scale model. In the model, the volume domain is discretized into a system of interconnected particles of polyhedral shape that are considered as ideally rigid. The behavior of material is simplified by the particle interaction and is described by the constitutive law applied at particle contacts. The existing constitutive law is enhanced with the the strain rate dependency. With increasing rate of deformation, the material resistance is increased. Various settings of function governing such an increase are considered. In combination with influence of inertia forces, the model is capable of representing the dynamical nature of concrete fracture. The results obtained with the model are compared with the results of dynamical experiments from literature.
