Original Abstract

Aerosol deposition proceeds in several mechanisms depending on their size and the part of the human respiratory tract (HRT). Particles of about 10 μm size are captured in the upper part of the HRT and can penetrate deeper as the particle size diminishes. As a carrier of many harmful compounds such as heavy metals, they can cause health problems. In this work we calculated deposition efficiencies in different parts of the HRT (head airways, tracheobronchial tree and pulmonary alveoli) according to their particle size and deposition fluxes of heavy metals bound to the aerosol based on the heavy metal concentration monitoring in selected area of Brno city.
