Original Abstract

A manuscript presents interesting topic of supercapacitors (SC) as devices for energy storage. Supercapacitors represent the alternative to common electrochemical batteries mainly to widely spread lithium-ion batteries. By physical mechanism and operation principle the supercapacitors are closer to batteries than to capacitors. Their properties lays somewhere between the batteries and capacitors,. They are able to quickly accommodate big amount of charge but the amount of charge is small than in case of battery (lower energy density) and their charging response is not so fast like in case of ceramic capacitors. The most common type of supercapacitor is Electrical Double Layer Capacitor (EDLC) this kind of supercapacitor takes majority on the market, expect this type, there are other two types: hybrid supercapacitors and pseudo-supercapacitors. The EDLC type using to storage of the energy the dielectric layer on the electrode – electrolyte interphase, it is electrostatic way of energy storage. The other two types of supercapacitors operate with electrochemical reaction and the energy itself is stored partially in the bond of chemical compounds. The SC, their types along with typical characteristics and properties are described in this manuscript.
