Ekonomické výdaje a sociální dopady spojené s poruchami vodovodního potrubí postihují nejen provozní vodárenské společnosti, ale ve svém konečném důsledku i všechny odběratele napojené na veřejný vodovod. Vlastní oprava a odstranění poruchy může vyvolávat i omezení v dodávkách vody, dopravě atd. Vyhodnocení, predikce a znalost poruchovosti má velký význam nejen v rozhodovacích procesech při plánování rekonstrukcí stávajících řadů, navrhování a výstavbě nového potrubí, ale také při běžném provozování vodárenských systémů.

The artide deals with using of artificial neural networks for estímating and prediction of water main failure rates and some otber technical indicators of water distribution networks as leakage, age of pipes etc. System of technical and performance indicators is a very effective apparatus, which is widely ušed by water Utilities, stakeholders, water authorities and other water professionals. The datasets of these indicators are very often used as a supporting tool for strategie and operationaJ decision making, rehabiiitation plannúig and comparison analyses across Utilities. This páper presents an approach for estímating and prediction of failure rates as oné of these indicators of pipe sections in water distribution network by means of artificial neural networks. The case study is demonstrated in the last part of the paper.
