Original Abstract

Buildings are exposed to a great many stresses. One of them is moisture. A building can be under damp stress for all of its service life, starting as early as its construction. All vertical, horizontal and inclined structures can suffer from damp. Moisture stress acts upon the exterior as well as the interior. In case of interior, it is mainly steam produced during normal operation of the building. One of the main external moisture stresses on the exterior is mainly the action of the weather, i.e. rain, snow and in extreme cases natural disasters – floods. In the case of floods, however, the stress is also hydrostatic pressure and the possibility of flooding of the building from both the exterior as well as interior.
