Original Abstract

In this paper authors focus attention on acoustic emission parameters obtained from records of three point bending fracture test on concrete specimens with central edge notch. Total ten sets of specimens were tested. Three specimens at the age of 28 days were tested in each set. Concrete of each set of specimens was different in dosage of Portland cement CEM I 42.5 R and amount of used superplasticizer. Acoustic Emission Method is considered quite unique among the non-destructive testing methods. In contrast to other Non-destructive methods, however, Acoustic Emission Method is usually applied during loading, while most others are applied before or after loading of a structure. Following these arguments, and according to the way in which the signals are recorded, Acoustic Emission is correctly described as non-destructive. On the other hand, Acoustic Emission is often used to detect a failure at a very early stage, long before a structure completely fails.
