Original Abstract

The lithium batteries use in electro cares or smart grids based on renewable energy technologies brought a lot of questions on cycle life, safety and costs. That is the reason for improving and research of new more efficient and cheaper solution for the batteries is still in progress. The view beyond of classic intercalation principle, today standard used in commercial lithium ion batteries, we can see a new conversion principle. The conversion reactions occur in both negative and positive materials. The conversion principle allows us to use materials with two or five times higher specific capacity than conventional materials based on carbon or LiCoO2. Unfortunately there are still some factors with have to be solved before use of this concept in everyday commercial use.
