Original Abstract

The article deals with the occurrence of arsenic in water, the health risks and the possibilities of arsenic removal from water by using sorption materials. In this work a laborato¬ry experiment was carried out with water from an underground source with the increased con¬tent of arsenic. This water was filtered through a selected sorbents GEH and CFH 0818. The results show that these sorption materials can reduce the arsenic content below the over-limit values just after 2.5 minutes to a tenth of the limit value prescribed by the Regulation of the Ministry of Health 252/2004 Sb. valid in the Czech Republic. Furthermore, it has been proved that the sorption materials also have an effect on the removal of iron, manganese and turbidity from water.
