Original Abstract

This paper discusses the need for time synchronization and its importance in distributed systems such as Smart Grids. Time synchronization covers two main goals, timestamping and planning, which are used to ensure proper operation of every distributed system. Three basic synchronization methods typical for Smart Grids (1-PPS, IRIGB, GPS) are described with their main features, advantages and disadvantages.
