Original Abstract

The standard EN1993-1-1:2002 (EC3) for steel structure design gives the recommended values of partial reliability factors. The load-carrying capacity of a steel frame with compression members can be computed, according to EC3, either by geometrical nonlinear solution or by stability one. In the present paper, we will demonstrate that the structure element reliability can be different in dependence on the method used. The choice of an appropriate method of combining permanent and variable active loads, and the verification of partial reliability factors recommended by the standard prEN 1990 will be discussed.
