Original Abstract

The article discusses the utilization of two different natural secondary raw materials in a dry pressed ceramic body with a kaolinic clay admixture. LS formed during the washing process of limestone aggregate and granite dust obtained during the crushing of granite were used as the basic non-plastic raw materials. The physico-mechanical properties of green samples (bulk density) and fired samples (water absorption, bulk density, flexural strength, mineralogical composition) were tested for samples made from raw material mixtures with a constant content of clay (40 wt%) and different ratio of dust and sludge. A higher content of LS in the test samples increases the bulk density of a green body, porosity (water absorption) and flexural strength of fired bodies, and decreases its firing shrinkage. This fact is caused by the creation of anorthite CaO Al2O3 2SiO2 in the body containing limestone sludge during the firing.
