Original Abstract

Meso-level modeling appeared to be useful approach in concrete fracture simulation. Many different models has been developed and successfully applied. One of them, the 3D discrete model of Gianluca Cusatis, is employed here to provide realistic mechanical core. It consists of cells that are created by tessellation around randomly generated spheres representing mineral aggregates. The cells are interconnected through their common facets by nonlinear bonds. The crack propagates by degradation of these bonds. The bond constitutive behavior has linear-elastic part followed by exponential softening in tension and shear combined with hardening in compression.
