Original Abstract

This paper is focused on presentation of design and further testing of pilot scale flotation unit. This unit was designed in the frame of the project FR–TI3/522 Innovative Approach towards Cleaning of Waste Water KUNST Flotation Unit. The dimensions of the flotation tank are 2.5 x 1.5 x 1.5 m and it is installed (with components like saturation tank, pumps and compressor) in the mobile container. The flotation unit is placed at wastewater treatment plant Hranice (the capacity of 30,000 PE) and it is operated as dissolved air flotation with recirculation. The activated sludge and waste activated sludge was thickening there. No additional chemicals were added. When activated sludge was treated the content of total solids in thickened sludge was ranging from 2.2 to 3.4 wt. %. Flotation of waste activated sludge produced the thickened sludge with 2.1 to 4.5 wt. % of total solids. Both at flotation of activated and waste activated sludge, the treated water contained only small amount of suspended solids (less than 10 mg/L for activated sludge and from 30 to 80 mg/L for waste activated sludge).
