Original Abstract

Musk compounds are organic compounds that are present in many perfumes, soaps and personal care products. These compounds are discharged after use via sewage treatment plants to the aquatic environment. Generally these substances belong to group of persistent organic pollutants mainly due to bioaccumulation and potential toxicity. The presence of musk compounds in the environment has been validated in many studies in our country and abroad. Musk compounds were detected in the tissues of fish and humans (blood and breast milk). Linear musk compounds are a relatively new group of substances, which are currently under study. It is expected that they are better for the environment thanks to faster degradation and toxicity compared to other groups of musk compounds. This study was focused on determination of four selected linear musk compounds (2-cyclohexylethanole, fresco menthe, citronellol and isobornyl acetate) in real samples of waste water. Real water came from influent and effluent of waste water treatment plant VFU Brno (April 2012). For isolation of analytes from samples was used optimized method solid phase microextraction (SPME). Analytes were identified and quantified by tandem technique – gas chromatography with mass spectrometry. The removal efficiency of linear musks from the waste water ranged between 91,22 % to 96,43% (2-cyclohexylethanol was not detected in any sample).
