Original Abstract

This article is focused on the determination of 9 worldwide used musk compounds in wastewater (influent and effluent) from wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) Brno-Modřice (February 2010). Optimized solid phase microextraction (SPME) was used for isolation of analytes from samples. The identification and quantification of analytes was carried out by GC-MS analysis. The two most commonly detected synthetic polycyclic musks in wastewater were galaxolide (2765 ng/L) and tonalide (422.8 ng/L), and the most extended nitromusks were musk ketone (90.33 ng/L) and musk xylene (40.55 ng/L). The overall removal efficiency of synthetic musks from WWTP wastewater ranged from 37.43 to 99.99 % (e.g. for galaxolide 55.48 %, for musk ketone 39.07 %).
