Jdeme-li do dávnější historie, navázal zvyk vydávat příležitostnou ražbu v podzemním stavitelství na tradice hornické, kdy známe od doby renesance řadu pamětních medailí týkajících se různých báňských revírů (např. výtěžkové medaile, medaile na otevření dědičných štol, medaile k 1. použití trhavin v podzemním hornictví apod.). Památky drobné plastiky mohou nabývat různých forem, z nichž nejčastější jsou medaile a plakety, příp. chápané i jako záslužné vyznamenání; to již náleží do oblasti faleristiky. Výjimečně se potom s nimi můžeme setkat i jako s pamětními mincemi vydávanými státními orgány (potom se jedná o numismatické památky).

If we go back to the more distant history, the custom to strike occasional medals in the field of underground construction industry picked up the threads of mining traditions. We know a number of commemorative medals from the Renaissance Period, relating to various mining districts (e.g. mining medals of metal produced by the particular mine, plaques issued on the occasions of opening new soughs, on the occasion of the first use of explosives in underground mining etc.). Petty plastic art tokens may assume various forms, most frequently the forms of medals or plaques, even understood to be medals of honour; these already belong into the field of faleristics. Exceptionally we can encounter them in the form of commemorative medals issued by state authorities (then it is the case of numismatic memorabilia).
