Original Abstract

Old Houses or industrial buildings (brown fields) reconstructions very often required strengthening of ceilings structures as girders or floor beams. Strengthening by fishplate is one of the typical way in this case witch increase sectional characteristic or in case of alone steel beams by adding concrete slab and creating composite beam. These methods have not been able to go to sufficient strengthening of structure witch required by new load or new loading combinations resulted by new standards. Another way strengthening of steel beams or concrete and steel beams can be prestress by tendons or bars. This method can bring increasing strength limit state (1st limit state) and serviceability state (2nd limit state) more than common methods (see above). This contribution deals the design of strengthening by prestressing steel beam of steel and concrete floor beam. The design is demonstrated on fictive current steel and concrete floor beam in industrial house witch will be renovated to office house. For design of strengthening by prestress will be used modelling by FEM method in the software. There will be created a FEM model of existing beam with new tendons or bars. The tendons or bars will be modeled without adhesion. The losses by relaxation of tendons or bars will be included in FEM model. The new load inserted to beam and calculation of internal forces will be a final step of modelling. Structure modelled by FEM will be estimated by standard (e.g. EN 1993) on 1st limit state (strength limit) and 2nd limit state (deflection). Conclusion will be included rise of strengthening by prestress.
