Original Abstract

For localization purposes, the distances between nodes are estimated. There are several methods of estimation based on different principle. Received signal strength, time and angle of arrival are the most used methods. In this paper, we give a short description of all of them and further we focus on a method using time difference between ultrasonic and electromagnetic signal. This system is implemented in Cricket sensor nodes, which are used in our measurements. Comparing to the most used method of signal strength measurement, the Cricket system achieves more accurate results. However, the promising accuracy has to be related to the viability of the Cricket system in real conditions, which is very limited mostly because of the directionality.
