Original Abstract

The measurements were carried out on the output jet of the arc heater with the arc stabilised by tangentially injected water and axially injected argon. Temperature and velocity field reconstruction is based on the results of temperature measurements by thermocouples and velocity measurements by enthalpy probe. The real gas temperature is evaluated from the thermocouple measurements using energy balance equation of the thermocouple tip. The velocity distribution within the jet profile is estimated from the relation between temperature and velocity fields in free jet. The velocity square profile is approximated by Gaussian distribution and the absolute maximum velocity in investigated jet cross-section is determined from momentum conservation law for free jet.
