Original Abstract

Cement-based materials and also some porous rocks show a noticeable loading rate dependence that increases with growing loading dynamics. Since the mechanical properties of these materials are functions of the rate of loading, they need to be determined with respect to straining rate in order to accurately predict their behavior when subjected to dynamic loads (earthquakes, explosions, external vibrations, etc.). The response of these materials to high straining rates will be discussed and evaluated in this contribution.

Keywords

Concrete; porous rocks; high loading strains; dynamic compressive strength.
