Original Abstract

3,6-di-pyridin-4-yl-2,5-dihydro-pyrrolo[3,4-c]pyrrole-1,4-dione (DPPP) and 3-phenyl-6-pyridin-4-yl-2,5-dihydro-pyrrolo[3,4-c]pyrrole-1,4-dione were prepared both in thin film. Molecular OLED devices are generally fabricated by sublimation under vacuum of successive layers of electron-and hole transporting materials. In contrast, low-cost solution-based processing techniques are usually requested for industrial production. Therefore four different derivatives of diphenyl-diketo-pyrrolopyrrole (DPP) with alkyl side groups were synthesized to increase their solubility (see Table I) and the question of relation between the chemical structure and morphology of prepared thin films were addressed.
