Original Abstract

The aim of this study was to examine the effect of sigma receptor ligand haloperidol in guinea pig atrial preparations. Stimulated contractions were recorded and analysed by time- and time-frequency methods. The analysis revealed that the compound exerts marked positive inotropic effect. This was significantly less pronounced in case of repeated drug administration. We conclude that sigma recep-tors in guinea pig atria undergo a desensitization process.
