Original Abstract

The paper provides an overview to connecting Texas Instruments network digital signal processors to Ethernet network. Reader will become familiar with the processors’ architecture as well as the peripherals that ought to be seriously considered while using the processor in a typical network environment. The Ethernet Media Access Controller, the key component to understanding overall network communication as well as physical layer device will be described below. The main intention of the paper is, however, to guide the reader through different scenarios of network configuration using the digital signal processor. The first scenario involves the internal ethernet controller on board of TMSC320C6412 whereas the second one introduces the external ethernet controller and its auxiliary devices to be used within the communication session. The pros and cons of presented solutions are also discussed.
