Original Abstract

The bicycle and foot bridge is part of a larger project involving works for the enjoyment of the park along the Medway river at Maidstone, in the UK. It was financed by the Millennium Commission and enables access to a new part, the Whatman´s Field park, recently created in an area - earlier inaccessable - located between the river and a railway line. The two-span ribbon bridge deck, of original conception, is the first example of a bridge having an elbow centreline. In fact, the centrelines of the two spans meet at an angle in plan of 25°. The bridge overal length is 101.5 m, and the maximum clear length of the main span, over the riverbed, is 49.5 m; the approach-span clear length is 37.5 m.
