Original Abstract

In this paper, we describe the application of adaptive pulse-width modulated (PWM) pre-emphasis to the equalization of higher-order copper channels. It provides an alternative to FIR pre-emphasis with advantages in the light of developments in CMOS scaling. However additional high-frequency noise which is typical for strong PWM pre-emphasis setting can be a problem. Our research is focused on optimatization of the standard PWM scheme for adaptive PWM pre-emphasis method. Finally, data-dependent adaptive PWM pre-emphasis technique is proposed.
