Original Abstract

The paper describes the pre-processing and subsequent segmentation of NMR images of growing tissue cultures. Images obtained by the NMR technique give three separately growing cultures. The aim of the work was to follow the speed of their development. Images obtained by means of the NMR device used are of very low resolution and contrast and there are no sharp edges between regions. Processing such images may prove to be quite difficult. A suitable algorithm was found, which consists of the pre-processing of the image and subsequent multiphase level set segmentation. The proposed method segments the image based on the intensity of the regions sought, and is suitable for working with NMR images in which there are no sharp edges. The method is described by partial differential equations that were transformed into corresponding difference equations solved numerically. Processing the detected images and measuring the sequence of NMR data give a graph of the growth development of the tissue cultures examined in comparison with manual measurement of their content.
