Original Abstract

The paper reports on the current state of a project focused on ultrasound transmission tomography. Estimation of the spatial distribution of ultrasound attenuation coefficient using this imaging technique is described. It is a valuable diagnostic parameter for assessment of the pathological state of the imaged tissue. The aim is to use the attenuation coefficient map for correction of the available algorithms for ultrasound transmission reflectivity imaging or to use the map as a standalone image for diagnosis. The techniques are intended to be an alternative imaging modality in breast cancer diagnosis. So far, using the designed algorithms, quantitative attenuation maps can be obtained for synthetic signals and qualitative maps for real signals recorded from artificial objects.
