Original Abstract

Nanostructures have attracted increasing attention because of their potential use in a wide range of technological applications, and also because of their novel properties. There are many ways to fabricate nanostructures, but only template-based methods have several advantages such as fabrication of large quantities of nanostructures on a small area, good control over their dimensions, the use of a broad range of materials, from which the nanostructures can be created, etc. These methods also enable to create both nanowires and nanotubes. The template-based methods are based on fabrication of a non-conductive template which contains pores smaller than 100 nm in diameter. If the template is attached to a conductive substrate a metal can be electrodeposited into the pores and after removing the template, nanowires or nanotubes of the same diameters as the pores in the template are obtained.
