Original Abstract

Image compression plays important role in interactive services for Multimedia Home Platform (MHP) in Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB). JPEG is used for lossy image compression in MHP standards. The scope of this article is to evaluate the possibility of using H.264 video compression standard for coding of still images in MHP services. The performed tests with grayscale and color images demonstrate that the coding gain achieved with H.264 is 1 - 6 dB in comparison with JPEG.

Možnost komprese obrazu pomocí videokodeku H.264 v interaktivních službách digitálního televizního vysílání je prezentována v tomto příspěvku. Zlepšení oproti JPEG kompresi je v rozmezí 1 - 6 dB.
