Original Abstract

The suitability of stochastic approaches for the analysis of the reliability of structural design is discussed in this paper. It is enunciated that the probabilistic assessment of reliability exhibits increased fuzzy uncertainty of input random variables, which are designated subjectively according to expert opinion and judgement. Vague (fuzzy) opinion of the implementation of these variables devalues the results of probabilistic analysis. The appropriately complex and transparent procedures of EUROCODE 3 are relevant to the precision that is to be reached. The probabilistic analysis can be utilized for the verification of the criteria for the design of steel structures according to universally valid and transparent principles of EN 1990.
