Original Abstract

The side channel attack is a new conception of the attack on the cryptographic module. The direct attack on the encryption algorithm is a classic conception that the cryptanalysis uses. This kind of the attack is ineffective and time demanding when it is used for the currently employed encryption algo-rithms. The side channel attack is led against a fault in the cryptographic algorithm implementation. The operations, which take place inside the cryptographic module, can be referred to in short as the activity of the cryp-tographic module. During this activity the cryptographic module produces heat and other emissions, takes power from the source, etc. Sensitive information is carried outside of cryptographic module in this way. Currently, observation is focused on the fault report and the time side channel at-tacks. However the power side channel attacks (current and voltage) are an important field of study. This kind of side channel attack can be focused on cases when the attacker has at their disposal the target cryptographic module. The differ-ential power side channel attack is a more serious case of power side channel attack. This article focuses on the dif-ferential power side channel description and on the practical presentation of differential power side channel attack on some of symmetrical encryption algorithms.
