Original Abstract

This contribution presents an approach for design of general RC cross-section subjected to a set of spatial loads consisting of normal force N and bending moments My and Mz. Discrete basic cross-sectional characteristics (cross-s dimensions, steel bars' profiles and types of materials) constitute the optimization space. Conditions of a minimal initial costs and negative environmental impacts of the cross-section are used for setting up the objective function(s). The allowable solution space is further restricted by constraints, obtained from the conditions of reliability of reinforced concrete structures in relation to load vectors (ULS given by Eurocode standard [1]) and from user-defined demands. The principle of solution of this problem is defined and illustrated by an example of a simple rectangular cross-section.
