Original Abstract

The molecular current modulator should be based on the electronic function of a molecular wire which side chains contain functional groups able to modulate the transport of charge carriers. The molecular wire can be realized by sigma- or pi- conjugated polymer chain. Very often the dipole moment of the metastable form of the photochromic system is higher than that of the stable form. This feature allows to control the heights of the potential barriers over the polymer chain, the level of conjugation and charge delocalization, and hence to change the on-chain mobility of charge carriers. Our interest is aimed to the class of molecules which dipole moments are strongly increased in the metastable forms.
