This paper describes a new method of the hardware accelerated license plate detection algorithm closely coupled with image compression using hardware. There is a description of the algorithm using pattern searching shown. There is also an example of the license plate detection in real situations. Focus is laid to the implementation of the image filter implemented in hardware which is used by the presented algorithm.
