Original Abstract

The paper describes a web system for learning of networking protocols. The aim of the web system is to offer a graphical interface for on-line access to protocol code examples with accompanying text description. The basic idea was to develop free accessed web pages supporting the posting of a formal language source code. Instead of using low-level languages such as C++ or Java, a formal language can show students much more about the principle of the communication when a particular protocol is used. Initially, the goal of formal specification languages was to provide a tool for easy specification of protocol standards and for functional analysis to find and correct errors prior to real implementation. However, it could be also well used for learning purposes. To support this idea, we have proposed and built a web system allowing the presentation of source codes developed in the SDL formal language.
