Original Abstract

Electromagnetic (EME) and acoustic (AE) emission, which are generated in stressed solids, can be used to indicate crack and defects position, dimension and their orientation. When a crack is created in a solid, the faces of the crack make up plates of an elementary capacitor and the charges located on them constitute an electric dipole or quadrupole. The paper describes the use of AE and EME signals from applied sensors to localize the position of the crack in the granite sample. This method is based on electromagnetic and ultrasonic effects related to generation of cracks in solid. For computing position of crack we are using Matlab v7.0 which processes AE and EME signal data file.
