Original Abstract

The stress state of a thin-walled steel girder is analysed in the paper presented. The girder is modelled by means of the finite element method by the ANSYS programme. In the calculation model, geometrical and material characteristics are considered according to the results of experimental research, i.e., as random quantities. The influence of these random quantities on the stress variability in the neighbourhood of fillet welds is studied where fatigue cracks originate most frequently in compliance with experimental results. It is studied by the sensitivity analysis which of the random quantities influence the studied output dominantly. For those quantities with large influence, it can be recommended that, during the manufacturing process, they should be controlled with increased accuracy with the aim of decreasing their random dispersion.
